CFO Position Overview: 

We are looking for a collaborative and purpose-driven CFO for the financial oversight and strategy of the company, including financial policy development and implementation, accounting and financial systems, budget planning and implementation, risk management and insurance, taxation, short- and long-term forecasting, banking and bonding. This position directs the organization's accounting department. This position requires critical thinking on complex business issues with an ability to articulate viewpoints throughout our management team as well as the ability to implement change and adapt quickly while executing business initiatives.  The role is either Boulder or Denver based.

CFO Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance; CPA, MBA highly preferred
  • Finance/accounting experience in the construction industry
  • Have at least 15 years of corporate and management accounting experience, with 3-5 years at an executive level
  • Strong knowledge of forecasting, financial modeling, and financial reporting
  • Excellent communication and people skills. Relationship building and inclusive communication are assets in our environment
  • Patient and humble teacher who can explain/educate/present financial information to non-financial people at all levels/positions within the organization
  • Experience in equity fundraising and private placements will be considered a plus
  • Adaptable and able to successfully navigate in a dynamic industry 

Strategy and Executive Management

  • CFO partners with the CEO, GM and other executives to contribute to the Company's short and long-term planning, identifying areas of possible growth, expansion and new profit opportunities
  • Function as a key member of the Company Circle (Executive Leadership team) to evaluate and support company strategies and decisions
  • Assist with determining company's direction and sounding board for the CEO and GM
  • Demonstrates credibility throughout the organization and with the Board of Directors as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges
  • Provides guidance and oversight of Accounting Team

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Complete analysis of financial results and develop recommendations (strategic and tactical).  Makes recommendations to improve the Company's financial performance
  • Responsible for ensuring all Fraud, GAAP, regulatory and statutory compliance
  • Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; Manage preparation and support of all external audits
  • Remain current on audit best practices as well as state, federal and local laws regarding company operations


  • Oversees, manages and expands the Company's relationships with banking institutions, bonding and insurance companies, shareholders and external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Manage cash flow planning process and ensure funds availability.
  • Monitors and manages the Company's cash position and drives improvement in net investment in working capital to minimize borrowing
  • Maintain outstanding banking and surety relationships and strategic alliances with vendors and business partners
  • Directs and coordinates the establishment and maintenance of the annual budget process involving department Team Leads as appropriate
  • Utilize forward-looking models to provide financial insight into the organization's plans and operating budgets
  • Accountable for proper and accurate tax and dividend payments to shareholders with insights from the Company's outside CPA firm
  • Support Commercial Solar Team's project development efforts as a finance, funding and risk mitigation partner

Risk Management

  • Oversees the procurement and maintenance of insurance with adequate limits to assure Company assets are safeguarded from potential exposure
  • Manage the Company's legal affairs and claim resolution in collaboration with the CEO
  • Collaborates with management team in reviewing and managing complex business agreements and contract negotiations; acts as an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts or subcontracts into which the company may enter
  • Tolerance for construction company risk
