 Position Overview:

The Commercial Safety Supervisor will design, execute, and monitor Namaste Solar's safety program and its project-specific safety plans, primarily for the Commercial/ Utility branches of Namaste Solar.  She or he will engage with commercial projects at every phase, from the RFP process through to commissioning, and will proactively address potential issues and build necessary safety plan.  Additionally, the Commercial Operations Team is depending on this individual to be able to walk onto each site and identify possible risks and/or areas of noncompliance, to communicate these clearly and effectively, and to work hand in hand with the operations and install teams to remedy such hazards.

Furthermore, the Commercial Safety Supervisor is the curator of Namaste Solar's safety culture. He or she will coach all employees/co-owners to approach every work-related task with safety in mind.  She or he will foster the current safety program consistent with OSHA requirements, develop new processes and programs in effort to reduce work-related injuries and incidents, and ultimately, be responsible for ensuring safety and OSHA compliance, primarily focusing on the Commercial/ Utility Team. 

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Thoroughly understand OSHA requirements in each area where Namaste Solar has or may have commercial projects (including but not limited to state plans such as CalOSHA, Vermont OSHA), and provide leadership and training for OSHA compliance standards and practices, with a focus on the Commercial/ Utility team needs
  • Work with Commercial Sales, Commercial Operations, and Commercial Install Leads to develop and implement site-specific safety plans (SAPs)
  • Assist in developing and implementing crane safety plans
  • Maintain and improve processes, methods and tools designed to measure, evaluate and monitor departmental safety performance
  • Implement and improve the current enforcement protocols for OSHA/Safety Policy non-compliance
  • Maintain compliance and relationships with subcontractors, including on-site supervision, project kick-off meetings, and post-project meetings
  • Oversee the design, preparation, analysis and presentation of safety data and statistical reports concerning injury trends, and provide democratically approved solutions to work-related problems
  • Foster and develop relationships with safety equipment distributors that provide the best economic advantage
  • Work with Commercial Sales and Operations on front-end to identify and mitigate any site-specific hazards and produce requisite documentation (SAPs, Crane Safety Plan, Material Handling Plans, etc.)
  • Maintain and improve Safety Policy and procedures
  • Provide safety training, including new hire orientation, heavy equipment certification, and other safety training modules as needed
  • Provide and maintain inventory of safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment for all departments, with a primary focus on the Commercial Team
  • Conduct safety inspections, job hazard analyses, and job site reviews (audits) wherever needed, with a primary focus on Commercial
  • Prepare site specific safety action plans, including for out of state job sites
  • Investigate all work-related injuries/incidents
  • Work with Human Resources and necessary Team Leads to manage Workers Compensation claims
  • Provide information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions
  • Provide support and back-up for the Residential Safety Supervisor wherever needed
  • Operate hand in hand with the Residential Safety Supervisor and with all leads to provide team-based solutions.

  • Represents the company in such a way that builds trust and accountability
  • Successfully develop and implement company safety program
  • Maintains active and healthy channels of communication with the Commercial Sales, Operations, and Installation teams to proactively address needs as or before they come up
  • Maintain current knowledge of local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations
  • Will likely require 20-50% travel, as the locations of our Commercial job sites vary significantly from year to year

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of, and experience with, commercial construction workflow
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical code and standards, and safety risks arising from the performance of electrical work
  • Ability to identify and mitigate hazards effectively onsite
  • Knowledge of OSHA and construction safety standards: Current OSHA 30 certification; Current OSHA 500 certification; NFPA 70E Certification, and specific knowledge of the laws and compliance expectations in each locale
  • Previous experience in construction industry
  • Excellent and inspiring communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting employee safety training

 

Non-essential (Valued but not required skills, experience, and licensure):

  • Journeyman or Master Electrician License
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Fall Protection Certification
  • Ladder Safety Certification
  • Scaffolding Certification
  • Aerial, boom, scissor lift Certification
  • Degree in Environmental Health & Safety or Construction Management
  • NABCEP certification
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification
  • Knowledgeable about PV installations of all sizes
