Pile Driving Lead Installer

The Pile Driving Lead is responsible for the management and supervision of pile driving operations.  This person leads all facets of pile installation including planning, mobilization, scheduling of work tasks, receipt of deliveries, layout of steel piles, rigging of piles, and pile driving for ground-mounted solar projects. The Pile Driving Lead Installer coordinates pile driving and racking installation with the Racking Lead and Construction Manager.


  • Ensure crew and job site safety
  • Lead pile installations for ground mounted PV system ranging from 300kW to 10MW based on system design drawings and specifications
  • Lead and train crews on pile driving equipment operation, pile layout, and best installation practices
  • Supervise and manage pile driving operation from mobilization to racking installation
  • Compile and track daily pile installation log
  • Report refusals to team and coordinate most appropriate method to remediate refusals with design team
  • Coordinate all work necessary to remediate refusals
  • Coordinate schedule and daily tasks with Racking Lead and Construction Manager
  • Receive, inventory, and unload material deliveries
  • Manage and inventory all tools necessary for pile installation
  • Maintain pile driving equipment and coordinate necessary repairs of pile driving equipment

Essential Functions (Specific Tasks/Deliverables):

  • Manage crew to ensure effective use of materials, equipment, tools, and efficient optimization of personnel
  • Ensure piles reach appropriate embedment depth and layout per engineered design specifications
  • Create as-builts documenting field changes and refusals
  • Complete QA/QC documentation
  • Assist with general ground support
  • Assist with general site preparation and clean up
  • Develop and communicate a Job Hazard Analysis for individual pile driving work tasks
  • Review plans and give input to estimators on projects being considered for bidding
  • Review contract documents, geotechnical reports, boring logs and engineering package for input on installation plan

Standards & Expectations:

  • Develop skills and knowledge in solar PV installations
  • Assist with completion of daily installation reports
  • Ensure installations are at or above industry quality standards
  • Perform maintenance or cleaning activities of equipment
  • Maintain tool management standards
  • Complete required safety training quarterly
  • Join the DC installation crew in trenching/wiring activities between pile installation operations
  • Willing to travel 50-75% of the year to remote projects located 3-7 hours from Denver, CO. Future work may require travel to states adjacent to CO 50-75% of the year.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Previous experience as a pile driving crew lead/foreman
  • Previous experience on a commercial construction site
  • Working knowledge of various fixed-tilt and tracking racking systems
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret geotechnical reports
  • Ability to read and understand field layouts and pile foundation plans
  • Ability to use surveying tools (laser, level, plumb bob, and framing squares) to layout pile ensure plumb and proper elevation
  • Past experience performing pile pull out test
  • Understanding and experience with various remediation techniques for pile refusals
  • Working knowledge and past experience operating and maintaining hydraulic type pile driving rigs and drill/vibratory attachments
  • Previous experience with hydraulic drill and vibratory attachments
  • Understanding of tool use and basic familiarity with construction practices
  • Comfortably able to lift 50lbs, work with tools, and work on pile driving equipment in varying temperatures
  • Excellent teamwork skills ability to foster a positive team environment through collaborative decision making

Valued but not required skills & experience:

  • Previous experience operating HMC STR-20 pile driver
  • Bachelor's degree
  • NABCEP Certified

Compensation and Terms:

  • Position is full-time
  • Based in either our Boulder or Denver office.

  • Work environment: The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate. Work environment changes by project, but can be anticipated to ground-mounted installations on uneven terrain. High and potentially dangerous exposure to electricity. The daily temperature varies from hot to cold depending on the season.
