Racking Lead Installer

The Racking Lead is responsible for the management and supervision of ground mount solar PV racking and module installation operations.  This person leads all facets of racking and module installation including mobilization, receiving deliveries, scheduling of work tasks, layout of racking material, and installation for ground-mounted solar projects. The Racking Lead will coordinate racking and module installation with the Pile Driving Lead and Construction Manager.


  • Ensure crew and job site safety
  • Plan and lead racking and module installations for ground mounted PV system ranging from 300kW to 10MW based on system design drawings and specifications
  • Lead and train crews on best installation practices
  • Coordinate and manage labor force to meet installation schedule, productivity goals, and quality standards
  • Coordinate schedule and daily tasks with Pile Driving Lead and Construction Manager
  • Receive, inventory and unload material deliveries
  • Manage and inventory all tools necessary for racking and module installation

Essential Functions (Specific Tasks/Deliverables):

  • Maintain materials, equipment, and tools necessary to complete racking and module installation related tasks
  • Lead laborers in material handling, layout, and installation
  • Coordinate and supervise laborers to ensure effective use of materials, equipment, tools, and efficient optimization
  • Ensure racking and module installation tolerances are met per design and manufacturer specifications
  • Create as-built drawings documenting field changes
  • Create and maintain daily logs of racking and module installation  
  • Develop and communicate a Job Hazard Analysis for individual work tasks
  • Complete QA/QC documentation for racking and module installations
  • Assist with general ground support
  • Assist with general site preparation and clean up
  • Develop and communicate a Job Hazard Analysis for individual pile driving work tasks

Standards & Expectations:

  • Develop skills and knowledge in solar PV installations
  • Assist with completion of daily installation reports
  • Assure installations are above industry quality standards
  • Perform maintenance or cleaning activities of equipment
  • Maintain tool management standards
  • Complete required safety training quarterly
  • Join the DC installation crew in trenching/wiring activities between racking installation operations
  • Willing to travel 50-75% of the year to remote projects located 3-7 hours from Denver, CO. Future work may require travel to states adjacent to CO 50-75% of the year.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Previous experience as a Racking Lead/Foreman
  • Previous experience on a commercial construction site
  • Previous installation experience with fixed-tilt and tracking racking installations varying from 300kW to 10MW
  • Understanding of racking tolerances and best installation practices
  • Ability to read and understand field layouts and racking plans
  • Understanding of tool use and basic familiarity with construction practices
  • Comfortably able to lift 50lbs, work with tools, and in varying temperatures
  • Excellent teamwork skills ability to foster a positive team environment through collaborative decision making
  • Good at problem-solving
  • Highly organized & can multi-task and set priorities
  • Effectively coordinate and communicate with others
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, community environment 
  • Ability to challenge and debate issues of importance to the organization
  • Willing to travel and work overtime
  • Forklift certification

Compensation and Terms:

  • Position is full-time
  • Based in either our Boulder or Denver office.

  • Work environment: The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate. Work environment changes by project, but can be anticipated to ground-mounted installations on uneven terrain. High and potentially dangerous exposure to electricity. The daily temperature varies from hot to cold depending on the season.
